The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe is moving forward with plans to implement medical cannabis sales in its territory in upstate New York after tribal voters overwhelming approved an MMJ referendum.
The tribal Election Board on Monday certified the results of the Dec. 14 vote
The adoption of the Medical Marijuana Ordinance was approved by 86% of the tribal voters. In a separate referendum, 76% of tribal voters approved legalization of adult-use marijuana sales in the future.
Medical marijuana sales have been legal throughout New York since 2016, and the state’s lawmakers are working on legalizing recreational cannabis.
