Prospective medical marijuana businesses in Missouri began vying for 348 potential licenses as the state’s formal two-week application process got underway.

More than 600 potential applicants already had prefiled facility application fees, according to the Missouri Department of Health.

The lion’s share of those applicants were multistate operators and wealthy local individuals, according to a St. Louis Post-Dispatch review of the records.

The state said it plans to issue licenses for 60 cultivation facilities, 86 processors, 192 dispensaries and 10 testing laboratories.
