Maine lawmakers approved a regulatory framework that will allow the sale of recreational marijuana as soon as the spring of 2020.

The measure approved by lawmakers now goes to Gov. Janet Mills for her expected signature, the Portland Press Herald reported.

A spokesman said Friday the governor intends to do so in the coming days.

Maine voters approved recreational marijuana in 2016, but the industry’s launch was stalled in part by vetoes by former Gov. Paul LePage.
