South Dakota voters likely will decide next year whether to legalize medical marijuana sales as Secretary of State Steve Barnett validated the signatures on a petition to place MMJ on the 2020 ballot.

The measure is expected to be decided at the polls on Nov. 3, although any citizen has until Jan. 20 to challenge the secretary of state’s validation.

Meanwhile, Barnett’s office is reviewing another medical marijuana ballot petition that also was submitted.
