Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Agriculture is allowing cannabis cultivators operating in the province to access cost-sharing grants funded through the Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP), a joint federal-provincial program to boost agriculture and agri-food businesses across Canada.

Saskatchewan’s share of the 3 billion Canadian dollar ($2.2 billion) CAP initiative is CA$388 million.

British Columbia also opened agricultural grants to cannabis companies, while Alberta is set to make a decision at the conclusion of its provincial election.

After they become fully licensed, small businesses such as micro-cultivators might benefit from the CAP funding.

One of the cost-sharing grants available is the Agricultural Skills and Knowledge Program, which aims to help agricultural producers offset some of the training or educational expenses related to farm management courses.

Applicants may be eligible for a rebate of up to 50% of the cost, up to a maximum of CA$2,500 per person annually, according to the program’s website. The maximum program funding is CA$10,000 per person.

“In order to access Canadian Agricultural Partnership funding, cannabis producers must be authorized licensed cultivators under the Canadian Cannabis Act in Saskatchewan,” a ministry spokesperson said.

The spokesperson added that authorized licensed cannabis companies also must meet the eligibility requirements designated for each CAP program.
