Medical cannabis patients in Ohio have spent more than $333,000 on 46 pounds of cannabis since sales kicked off at four dispensaries Jan. 16, the Dayton Daily News reported.

The sales figures were provided by the state’s Medical Marijuana Control Program, which reported $75,000 in medical marijuana sales the first day alone.

Compared to other new medical marijuana markets, Ohio has had a strong start to sales.

In the first month of medical cannabis sales in Massachusetts, for example, patients spent $284,000, and in Hawaii, they spent $304,000 in the program’s first 30 days.

Ohio has surpassed those sales figures in half the time.

Currently, Ohio’s MMJ patients are paying about $50 for a tenth of an ounce of medical marijuana, Thomas Rosenberger, executive director of the National Cannabis Industry Association of Ohio, told the newspaper.

But that number is expected to decline once more licensed cultivators begin supplying product to the market, he noted.
