IndustryDevelopments | International & State Indiana Researchers at the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University found that states with legal recreational marijuana sales had among the lowest rates of electronic cigarette- or vaping-associated lung injury. According to the study, the average recreational marijuana state had 1.7 cases per million people, 8.8 cases per million people in medical marijuana states and 8.1 cases per million people in markets without a legal cannabis program. The study was published in the Journals of the American Medical Association Network. Iowa Two medical marijuana dispensaries in the state permanently closed their doors. The dispensaries, in Council Bluffs and Davenport, were operated by Have a Heart Compassion Care, a multistate medical and recreational marijuana operator based in Washington state. Harvest Health & Recreation, an Arizona- based multistate cannabis operator, acquired Interurban Capital Group, the owner of Have a Heart, though it’s unclear whether the Iowa closures are tied to that purchase. The state’s medical marijuana law allows for the licensing of five dispensaries and two manufacturers. Iowa now has three licensed dispensaries, operated by Iowa Cannabis Company and MedPharm Iowa.
