Marijuana Business Magazine November-December 2019

Marijuana Business Magazine | November-December 2019 10 From the CEO | Cassandra Farrington O ne of the things I enjoy most about what we do here at MJBizDaily is how we highlight the unique approaches that entrepreneurs and investors in this crazy, non-normalized business environment are taking to ensure the success of their enterprises. And one of the things I enjoy most about the cannabis industry is how willing those entrepreneurs and investors are to share those unique approaches—what’s worked well, what’s been more challenging—so we can all benefit from each other’s experiences. Here in the cannabis industry, we each need all the help we can get to successfully navigate these tricky waters. This month’s Marijuana Business Magazine is a terrific example of idea-sharing in action. One of the keys to success in the long game of the cannabis industry will undoubtedly involve today’s smaller, innovative and industry-focused companies building strong partnerships with stable mainstream organizations. The stability offered by the mainstream partner’s experience, capital and infrastructure—combined with the innovation, pace and determination of the cannabis company—can lead to outsized success for both sides. However, it’s not as easy as it looks to identify the right partner and build that relationship for the long term. In this issue, we bring you a series of case studies from marijuana and hemp business leaders who have found success. How did they find the right partner? What were the critical pieces of the agreement? What obstacles tripped them up along the way, and how were those overcome—if they were overcome at all? And, because the proof is in the pudding, where does that partnership stand today? In the cannabis space, we each walk our own unique road. There is no template we can pick up and follow to guaranteed success. But we are not alone in this walk, either. Picking up a trick here, being inspired by a best practice there, adapting a good idea into your business’ unique situation: That’s the ticket to continuing your own path to success. I hope you enjoy these case studies as much as I do. Sincerely, Making a Case to Partner With the Mainstream Cassandra Farrington Co-Founder & CEO, MJBizDaily P.S.
