Marijuana Business Magazine July 2019
New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed business-friendly legislation that would allow out-of-state medical marijuana cardholders to purchase products from New Mexico dispensaries. Another provision would allow licensed home growers to pay manufacturers to turn their plants into edibles, extracts or derivatives. By allowing reciprocity, MMJ dispensaries likely will see a boost in cannabis sales from out-of-state patients. Marijuana manufacturers, meanwhile, could see a bump in revenues from home growers paying for their services. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo conceded there wasn’t sufficient support in the state Senate to legalize recreational marijuana in 2019. Cuomo said he backs the legalization of marijuana, but the issue remains controversial for many legislators. Despite broad support for legalization, there are disagreements about the regulatory details and whether legislation should include provisions expunging past low-level marijuana convictions.
