Georgia will keep its 5% THC cap but allow for six growing licenses to be granted to private companies—two for larger organizations and four for smaller businesses. Plants must be grown inside, and smoked or vaped MJ is prohibited. The new law also bars the Georgia Department of Agriculture from regulating marijuana cultivation and allows public universities to obtain cannabis for research purposes from “any available legal source.” Illinois The state became the first in the U.S. to legalize recreational marijuana cultivation and sales through its Legislature, a landmark move that paves the way for the creation of one of the nation’s largest adult-use cannabis markets and offering “huge” business opportunities. Marijuana Business Daily projects the Illinois rec market potentially will eclipse $2 billion in annual sales a few years after the program launches in early 2020, possibly reaching $2.5 billion per year, depending on the number of tourists who make purchases.
