Gov. Brian Kemp has indicated he supports medical marijuana cultivation in Georgia, which launched a limited MMJ program in 2015. The bill limits medical cannabis cultivation licenses to six and requires MMJ to be grown inside. It also bars the Georgia Department of Agriculture from regulating marijuana cultivation. Illinois The Senate Executive Committee voted to advance a so-called “shell bill” that lawmakers can amend later to legalize a recreational marijuana market in the state. The bill is expected to be significantly changed through private negotiations among lawmakers, the governor’s office and members of the cannabis industry. Additionally, the Illinois Senate passed legislation that would bar state regulators from penalizing or discouraging banks and credit unions from serving cannabis businesses.
