Marijuana Business Magazine January 2019
Marijuana Business Magazine | January 2019 26 Kansas The election of Democrat Laura Kelly puts a medical marijuana supporter in the governor’s seat. MMJ bills have been considered without success for years in Kansas. Previously, MMJ supporters would have had to gather supermajori- ties in both the Kansas House and Senate to override a likely veto from Kelly’s predecessor, Jeff Colyer. With support from Kelly likely, advocates now need only simple majorities in both chambers. Louisiana Pennsylvania-based Ilera Holistic Healthcare is taking over the contract to grow medical marijuana on behalf of Louisiana’s Southern University for the state’s MMJ program. Ilera bought a 68% stake in Advanced Biomedics, which was awarded the initial contract. Ilera plans to build a temporary facility on a 40-acre parcel of land in north Baton Rouge, adjacent to an existing Southern University AgCenter facility, to get MMJ on store shelves in the “early second quarter” of 2019. Louisiana’s other medical marijuana grower, GB Sciences, is cultivating cannabis on behalf of Louisiana State University. Industry Developments | International & State
