Illinois Democrat J.B. Pritzker defeated incumbent Gov. Bruce Rauner on Election Day, putting a major cannabis advocate in the Illinois governor’s mansion. Pritzker campaigned on a platform that included the legalization of adult-use marijuana. Charlie Bachtell, CEO of Chicago-based, multistate marijuana operator Cresco Labs, said Pritzker’s victory “should result in legalization in Illinois,” though how regulators will choose to structure an adult-use program won’t be determined for months or more. “That still has to pass in the next legislative session, and then you have regulatory development that has to take place,” Bachtell said.
