Leafly CEO Ousted Chris Jeffery , CEO of the popular cannabis website Leafly, was removed less than a year after he was hired by the Seattle company. According to a spokesman for Privateer Holdings, the cannabis- focused private equity firm that owns Leafly, Jeffery was let go “after careful consideration due to concerns about his management of the company.” Marketing Expert Joins Denver Ancillary Company General Cannabis Corp., a Denver company that provides ancillary ser- vices to marijuana growers, manu- facturers and retailers, hired market- ing expert Cindy Gonzales . Gonzales reports to Chief Operating Officer Joe Hodas and oversees initiatives relating to security, marketing, operational consulting and products, real estate and financing. She was previously brand marketing manager for hotel company Two Roads Hospitality. Ag Tech Firm Promotes Operations Executive Urban-Gro, an agricultural technol- ogy firm in Lafayette, Colorado, pro- moted Dan Droller to executive vice president of operations. Droller cur- rently leads the firm’s Soleil Technolo- gies engineering, product development and technology teams. Droller will be responsible for the evaluation of new products, services and technology for Urban-Gro. He previously held business development positions with software platform MassRoots and Chartboost, a mobile game business engine. Supreme Hires Supreme Cannabis, the Ontario-based parent of 7Acres, a federally licensed producer in Kincardine, Ontario, expanded its executive team. The new vice president of corporate development is Scott Walters . He is the founder and former CEO of Molecular Science and has held executive positions at THC BioMed, Canabo Medical and Empower Clinics. Craig Young , the new vice president of sales, has held senior roles with New Brunswick Liquor and Nova Scotia Liquor. For the past 10 years, he was a senior manager for Treasury Wine Estates, one of the world’s largest wine companies. The new vice president of government relations and international affairs is Barinder Bhullar . Besides his international responsibilities, Bhullar will lead govern- ment relations across Canada. His past posts include director of policy in the office of the British Columbia premier and senior director of international missions for the provincial government. Aphria Appoints Investor Relations Chief Leamington, Ontario-based Aphria, one of the biggest licensed producers in Canada, hired John Sadler as its vice president of investor relations. He has held similar posts at Newcourt Credit Group, Element Fleet Manage- ment and ECN Capital. Delta 9 CFO Passes Away Brent Bottomley , chief financial officer of Delta 9 Cannabis, a Canadian cultivation company, died unex- pectedly in September. Bottomley was behind the firm’s financing efforts, business plan development and man- agement team build-out. Before Delta, Bottomley held senior positions at Wellington West Capital and Merrill Lynch Canada and was a partner at Osprey Capital Part- ners. Jim Lawson , Delta’s controller, will serve as interim CFO until a permanent replacement can be found. Vertically Integrated British Columbia Company Expands Board of Directors Four executives joined the board of directors of Valens GroWorks, a vertically integrated cannabis company in Kelowna, British Columbia, that grows, extracts and sells cannabis: Chris Buysen, Chris Irwin, Nitin Kaushal and Ashley McGrath . Buysen is chief financial officer of Valens, an Israeli semiconductor company. Irwin is a partner in the Toronto law firm of Irwin Lowy, where he is focused on securities and corporate/com- mercial law. He is also a director and officer of several public companies. Kaushal is managing director of corporate finance at PwC Canada and has held senior roles with Canadian investment banks and private equity and venture capital firms. McGrath is president and owner of Glencoe Develop- ments, where he oversees the management of a large rental portfolio of residential and commercial real estate.
