The site will be the first testing lab in interior Alaska. The new testing facility will cut wait time and transportation costs for the state’s interior growers, said Cary Carrigan of the Alaska Mari- juana Industry Association. State tax records show there are about 30 active marijuana cultivators paying taxes in Fairbanks and northern Alaska. The only other testing facilities in the state are near Anchorage and Juneau. Arizona Health and safety regulators inspected Copperstate Farms, one of Arizona’s largest medical marijuana cultiva- tors, after a chemical spill in the fertilizer room. A company spokesperson said a forklift driver accidentally knocked over 3-5 gallons of a cleaner called “Strip-It” onto the floor June 6. The Arizona office of the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality separately inspected the 40-acre site in Snowflake, Arizona. Company officials say they have responded to requests by regulators to provide additional information about how Copperstate manages its hazardous wastes to ensure they aren’t dis- charged into public systems. 20 • Marijuana Business Magazine • October 2018
