Massachusetts The top federal prosecutor in Massachusetts indicated he will take a mostly hands-off approach to the state’s adult-use marijuana industry, narrowing his office’s focus to overproduction that could lead to illegal sales across state lines. The approach is similar to one articulated recently by Oregon’s top federal prosecutor, who expressed frustration with that state’s inability to rein in cannabis production and enforce regulations. Oregon regulators have responded, in part, by suspending the processing of new rec MJ license applications. Massachusetts voters passed a recreational MJ initiative in 2016, and the state targeted a July 1 launch, although the licensing process has been slow to get going. Michigan A group of state lawmakers asked Gov. Rick Snyder to extend the Sept. 15 deadline for existing businesses to receive their permanent medical marijuana licenses or be required to shut down. So far, the state has issued only 16 operating licenses under a new, stricter regulatory regime, and many experts say that’s not nearly enough to avert a major disruption in the country’s second-largest medical marijuana market. Existing MMJ businesses that don’t have their license by the deadline must close until they get one. The state will issue cease-and-desist letters if necessary to make sure that happens. 5 Inspired by temperature USA Huber USA, Inc. 100 Centrewest Ct.
