The Denver City Council narrowly rejected a proposal that would have relaxed rules for marijuana social consumption businesses, potentially allowing more to operate.
The proposal was supported by seven of 12 councilors but failed to get the supermajority needed to change a voter-approved law, the Denver Post reported.
The bill would have reduced from 1,000 feet to 500 feet the distance a social consumption business is required to be from child care facilities and certain other buildings.
Separately, state lawmakers are considering a bill that would legalize on-site consumption at “marijuana hospitality establishments” such as cannabis lounges, marijuana tour buses and spaces set aside in hotels.
The Colorado House passed that bill last week, and the measure now is in the Senate Finance Committee.
